House Extension FAQs

Do I need planning permission for an extension? +
Many extensions fall under Permitted Development rights, meaning no planning application is needed. Limits apply — typically 4m depth for detached houses, 3m for others. We assess this at your free survey and handle any planning applications required at no extra management charge.
How long does a house extension take? +
A typical single-storey extension takes 8–12 weeks on site once groundworks begin. A double-storey project is usually 14–20 weeks. Weather, material lead times and the level of finish you specify can all affect this — we agree a realistic programme before we start.
Can I stay at home during the build? +
Yes — most of our extension clients remain in the property throughout. We work agreed hours (07:30–17:30 weekdays) and protect internal areas with hoarding and dust sheets. The point at which your internal wall is knocked through is usually the most disruptive — we plan this to minimise inconvenience.
